Coffee With Nokia

by Farhan on January 20, 2009

Yesterday was one of the best days of my life , I get to meet the Nokia Pakistan Marketing folks for coffee ( their treat and it was wonderful ,  if you are reading it buddy next time It will be my turn ;)

We get to discuss a lot of issues pertaining to legal and cultural environment and usage of cell phones in Pakistan  , the hurdles the industry is facing and what other mobile manufacturers are doing .

Some of the interesting facts I was told wer

Pakistan had been the record holder for sale of Nokia 1200 mobile phones yup the largest number of Nokia 1200 were sold in Pakistan

Nokia had been operating in Pakistan since 1992 but didn’t actively entered the market till a few years back , I agree when I got my first phone in Pakistan in 1999 , A Motorola Startec , my other choice  was Nokia 6810i the only reason I gave up on that was due to it’s colors after that I moved to 3210 probably the first phone with Xpress On Covers .

Nokia is planning to open more Nokia Care Centers all over Pakistan with ‘competent staff’ , buddy you need them , I went to Nokia Care last week and they didn’t even knew that f/W 200.XX.XXX is out for Nokia E71 .  The outlets can be used to actively promoting Nokia Phones the latest of which were kept under lock and I was not allowed to touch them and the ones which were kept outside the lock were turned off.In comparison when I last went to a Nokia Care in the Pavilion Mall in Kuala Lumpur , I get to play with all the models   .

We also shared ideas on how to overcome some of the governmental hurdles and I gave them some examples from my pharmaceutical industry.

Hence the discussion was very productive and I also like to Thank Nokia Pakistan for the New Year gift I was given of chocolates and Nokia Branded Kingston 2GB Flash Disk . Now I’ll look a true Nokia Fan Man ( I’ve passed the age of being called a boy :)
