Nokia and Pakistan share a very special relationship as Pakistan always get precedence over others to get the latest devices be them entry level or high end imaging flagships. ( For those thinking Lumia , it’s not launched as Windows Phone does not support Urdu / Arabic and Nokia does not want to launch any half baked solutions) A couple of weeks ago, NokiaPakistan held a blogger sneak preview of their imaging Flagship the Nokia 808 PureView, unfortunately I was out on my vacation at the time and was not able to attend the event. Nonetheless when NokiaPakistan mentioned availability of 808 Pureview at their office, I was all over them to get a chance to take the first peek at this amazing device and again we got the honor to be the first in Pakistan to unbox the Nokia 808 Pureview.
Keeping up with their design of their other high end devices like N9 and Lumia series , the 808 PureView also features the same slide out design . On the top of the box you can see it’s snap shots of 808 PureView in it’s three colors namely Red , White and Black which makes you want all three. The main feature of the phone, the Carl Zeiss 41 MP Sensor is also shown in it’s full glory.
At the back of the box as per their norm, Nokia has mentioned the key features of the phone namely
- 41MP Sensor Camera
- 4 Inch AMOLED Clear Black Display
- Xenon Flash
- 1.3 Ghz Processor
- 16 GB Internal Memory
- A-GPS/ Micro-USB / Micro HDMI / HTML 5 Browser / 3.5mm Nokia AV Connector / Bluetooth
Slide out the inner case and Nokia 808 PureView is revealed in it’s full glory. We were lucky enough to get the Fire Engine Red Color which matches our devilish sense of fashion.
Lift the Phone and underlying tray and there lies a small blue case with documentation. Don’t be arrogant of the documents case as I discovered much later tin the day the goodies it contains beside Quick Guide & Product Safety Information a NFC Tag Card and PureView Tips and Tricks.
For those not familiar with the technology , NFC or Near Field Communication , is the latest in communication standard which works by transferring data including pictures, videos or contacts by touching the two devices. With the NFC Tagged card, new users can easily experience the technology by just touching the back of the phone with the the card and watching the NFC Intro Video.
Now Nokia 808 PureView is not you everyday Camera phone, the 41 MP Sensor has some amazing tricks up its sleeve like the Bookeh effect or Panning and the best way to experience them and make the most of this amazing device is to go through the Tips and Tricks booklet and we are confident that next time you leave on a vacation with 808 Pureview , you will leave all your cameras at home.
Accessory wise , there is the usual Micro USB sync / Charge cable but this time the wire has no Nokia logo . To charge the phone , Nokia has provided AC 50E USB Travel Charger with 5V output to power the supplied BV-4D 1400 MAh Battery and WH-209 headphones .
One accessory which was a welcome surprise was a Black Leather strap , now 808 PureView is not meant to be kept in the pocket , it’s to be taken out and capture the world around and in capturing you may loose hold of the phone and here the strap helps keeping the phone hanging to your wrist.
We felt the lack of accessories as compared to On the headphones, I’m disappointed, Nokia should have given Dolby Headset along not the regular Headphones as 808 PureView Supports Dolby Surround Sound. However the design change to a snub fronted ear piece was pleasant.
Other things which I’ve missed as compared to Nokia N8 were the Micro HDMI cable which Nokia is now selling as a separate accessory and USB On the Go Ca-157 Cable which is also available for purchase , so for those who still have their N8 , rejoice , we have all the wires available supplied with our N8.
Here we conclude our unboxing of Nokia 808 PureView , soon we’ll cover the phone walk around with some surprises , meanwhile as we have the phone for a few days , if you have any questions about the phone do feel free to ask us in comments or on our Facebook page.
