A Linux based platform meant for a number of devices from mobiles to net tops , Car Infotainment systems to netbooks .  Yes the new OS will work on almost everything you throw at it .

The driving force behind Meego is QT application development environment and as per Nokia’s Kai Oistamo it will bring applications mobility , imagine running an App or a Game on your netbook , on the go shift it to your Car Infotainment system , on the trek used the same thing on your mobile or tablet pc , the same app running every where , good for Games imagine what it will do for business .

Coming to the Meego Launch presentation , the presenters were Kai Oistamo from Nokia and Renee James  from Intel , for ,many of us Kai is the same person who gave the Web Keynote with Microsoft some months ago and now he’s standing with Intel and going for an OS .

Meego as told is going to be completely open source and for every manufacturer i.e  Nokia will not have any control over it , be it Samsung , LG or any Chinese manufacturer , they can obtain the source code , make it work to their likes , change the UI as they want and put it on their phones , being open source there are no costs involved with it except the cost of developement and ofcourse with QT enabled and ,multiple platform choices , the developers will be more than happy to jump the {a]Meego band wagon .

MeeGo will be available in the 2nd half 2010 and later devices will be announced .

In the Q&A , Kai did confirmed that Maemo 6 will not be Meego and all other builds for Maemo will be unified under MeeGo platform , and the good news for N900 owners according to Kai , the next OS update for N900 will include Meego and as Meego is already compatible for existing platforms, we can make a guess that Maemo 6 aka Harmattan will be available for N900 too

Kai also disclosed that their are 5000 developers currently working on QT so we should expect a full fledge range of applications in the coming days for N900 and other platforms .

On answering does shifting to MeeGo will kill Symbian , Kai said ‘ NO  NO  and NO ‘ Symbian is here to stay and Symbian is perfect for developers and smart phones and and MeeGo is for different type of devices .

I asked Renee James , about Moblin being an open source OS for netbooks so should we take MeeGo as an OS for netbooks and how further it can take Microsoft , well on the mention of Pakistan ( I was the only Pakistani there :) she did had a look of astonishment on her face but composed herself and answered that MeeGO is for multiple platforms and Netbooks is one of them .

That marrked the end of sessing and beifing 2 began .

So what you think about MeeGo ? Could  Nokia float in two boats and remain Amigo with Microsoft and Intel ?

That’s what some people think at Nokia party last night
