Nokia senses and Locates

Nokia Research Labs at CES 2009 has showcased their prototype  Locate Sensor . A Thumb Size Tag which you can attach to any thing and if they are lost or reaches a certain distance threshold it’ll alert and pin point the direction . As the range is 100 m , The connectivity between the phone and device is through a simple signal and the battery life lasts upto 18 months   .  A Single phone can connect upto 100 Different sensors so everything is covered as shown by Nokia they were covering their Badge , Wallet and Keys.

But beside a key locator what else could be features of this prototype , Key locators are dime a dozen and if positioned it that way the prototype may loose it’s technological advantage .

For me the probable usage could be used for Asset Protection in Offices ,no need to attach an odd looking lock on the laptops ,  attach the devices to expensive portable hardware like Laptops /  sensitive data disks , important files  and as they are carried out of the room /  Office the dedicated system starts beeping and also pinpoints the location of the unit being moved .

One more wacky idea is to use it in Advertising , say I walk into a mall with the application installed in my phone as I enter , I get a message by bluetooth which on acceptance starts  the application and shows  an Ad for Prada’s Closing down sale and also shows me the direction to where the store is located .

The ideas are unlimited for this device , use it on babies , use it on pets , use it even in your car to find it in the mall’s parking lot . Your imagination will be the only limitation and only sense needed to be applied
