I get knocked down ,

I get up again ,

you are never gonna keep me down.

lyrics of this song by Chumbawamba  play on my head when ever I hear about Nokia ( not Microsoft one ) making waves in the Mobile Industry , such as the Nokia Z Launcher and Nokia N1 Tablet.

With sale of their units to Microsoft along with their god awful management , the new Nokia is leaner and meaner then ever, with no burden of being a painted lady for Microsoft and no dinosaurs like OPK as their head in whose tenure Nokia invented great concepts but not much materialized such as Nokia Smart Glasses which worked with Nokia N97 to name one .

Anyhow , the new Nokia is coming up fast in a different segment , networking ,  and their first major acquisition is buying Alcatel Lucent for $16.6 billion ( they themselves put themselves on a platter for Microsoft for just $ 7.2 billion )

As per Nokia ” The combined company will be uniquely positioned to create the foundation of seamless connectivity for people and things wherever they are. This foundation is essential for enabling the next wave of technological change, including the Internet of Things and transition to the cloud.

The combined company will have unparalleled innovation capabilities, with Alcatel-Lucent’s Bell Labs and Nokia’s FutureWorks, as well as Nokia Technologies, which will stay as a separate entity with a clear focus on licensing and the incubation of new technologies. ”

and these new technologies include 5G, IP and software-defined networking, cloud, analytics as well as sensors and imaging .

For their handset business , Nokia will get their brand back in 2016 ( it seems like yesterday they lost it to Redmond)  and they can have Foxconn to manufacture their phones for them like everyone else while they focus on networking segment .
